Before dinner, I went somewhere for a bit. Bora and Haru were supposed to see me off, but they said they had something to do and disappeared somewhere.
Going somewhere, as I expected, was the monthly physical check-up. I tried to stand on tiptoe to gain a little height, but the examiner next to me caught me.
“Hana, you shouldn’t stand on tiptoe.”
“Ugh.”
The cruel way they spoke made me pout. They ruthlessly crushed my desire to grow even 1cm taller. The height measuring device tapped the top of my head and went back up. For a moment, I thought about standing on tiptoe again, but I decided against it.
It’s not like I’m going to live on tiptoes, so what’s the point of gaining a little height that way?
But when I saw my height on the digital display, I felt shaken, wondering if I should have stood on tiptoe after all. My height was still 135cm. Surely, I’m not done growing, right?
Hiding my anxiety about not growing taller, I proceeded with the check-up. It was a simple, basic examination, so it didn’t take long. Soon, I was excited at the thought of having a delicious dinner. What’s on the menu today?
Pork cutlet is good, but I’ve eaten so much of it that I’m tired of it. A juicy steak would be nice! Any meal with a bit of vegetables would be welcome. Chewing meat is the joy of my life. No matter how much I eat, I never get tired of it.
Meat is truly the best.
After finishing the check-up, I went upstairs, and as soon as the elevator doors opened, I noticed a delicious smell. Could someone have raided my secret stash of food?
My face turned pale in an instant, and I rushed to my room. But when I saw what was inside, I was utterly shocked.
Not only was there a large dining table in my room, but it was also laden with delicious food I could only dream of.
Pizza, chicken, pasta, and so many other dishes were steaming and giving off a mouth-watering aroma. It reminded me of Christmas, but back then, we only had a simple cake at a restaurant. Today, it seemed like they had gone all out.
As soon as I saw the food, I started drooling like a dog in front of a feast. It wasn’t my fault. It was Bora and Haru’s fault for filling the table with such delicious food.
“Hana, you’re here?”
Bora and Haru were carrying more food. The table was already set, and they hugged me. Bora’s hand gently ran through my hair. I closed my eyes and felt the ticklish, cool sensation. It was pure bliss.
The party was to celebrate my successful entrance ceremony. There was plenty of delicious food and even champagne. I couldn’t take my eyes off the alcohol. Just one glass of chilled champagne would make me so happy!
But next to my mug with Lumi’s picture, there was only cola and cider. Sadly, it seemed like they weren’t going to pour me any champagne. If it weren’t for the beer incident last time, I might have been able to have a glass…
But Bora and Haru had seen my hangover, so they probably wouldn’t give me any alcohol. Still, it didn’t matter. Delicious food was much better than alcohol anyway.
Bora picked me up and placed me in the chair at the center of the table. Then she said:
“Congratulations on your entrance ceremony, Hana!”
In the middle of the table was a delicious chocolate cake with a single candle. The candle was lit, so it was clearly time to blow it out.
“Congratulations!”
As Haru congratulated me, I blew out the candle on the cake. Then, with the sound of applause, fireworks went off.
“Wow!”
Who knew an entrance ceremony could feel this good! I wished I could have an entrance ceremony every day. If I did, I could eat such delicious food every day. Sorry to the restaurant lady, but this food was even better than the meals at the restaurant.
With a determined expression, I picked up my fork. My first target was the cream pasta. Sadly, there was no traditional Korean meal, just Western dishes you could find anywhere, so I didn’t get to use chopsticks much.
“Yum!”
As I twirled the pasta on my fork and took a bite, I felt a wave of happiness. It seemed even more delicious than the pasta at restaurants, probably because Bora and Haru had put so much effort into it. I hadn’t expected them to be this good at cooking.
As I was massacring the pasta with my fork, Bora pulled something out from her embrace and handed it to me. I shifted my gaze from the pasta to the small paper bag she gave me.
From its size, it seemed like it contained a card or maybe a business card. I put down the fork I was using to eat the pasta and carefully opened the paper bag.
It was so elegantly wrapped that I couldn’t just tear it open recklessly.
It was a waste earlier. Later, when I put Lumi’s illustration card in, it was the perfect paper bag.
“This is…?”
What came out of the paper bag was unexpected. It looked like a small ID card. The luxurious gold foil was beautifully decorated on the outer border, and my photo was embedded in the upper left corner. Back then, I was too lazy to take a photo, so I made a grumpy face, and now that expression is immortalized in the photo…
“This is like a proof that Hana has entered elementary school! You must never lose it, okay?”
The ID card, about the size of a business card, had the name Kim Hana, 3rd grade at Starlight Elementary School, written on it. It seemed to follow Bora’s surname. I held the student ID up to the light, and it shimmered beautifully depending on the angle.
Since it’s a prestigious elementary school, even the student ID was extraordinary. How much effort must have gone into getting this ID? I felt a bit guilty, as if I had gotten it for free. But compared to the value I produce, it was just a tiny gift.
Well, it’s not like I’m not valuable. I’m a precious asset, contributing significantly to the sales of Starlight Food and Cosmetics. I decided to hold my head high.
It’s not just me who would suffer. The lives of tens of thousands of employees depend on me. If I were to go on strike even for a day, chaos would surely ensue.
Of course, there’s no reason for me to strike. There’s no place as warm and satisfying as this. I soon lost interest in the student ID and focused on the food on the table. Since it’s a remote area where delivery food doesn’t come often, the pizza and chicken melted in my mouth as soon as I took a bite.
I didn’t used to be so obsessed with meat, but my growing body always demanded more food and even more meat. It’s not my fault. It’s always the fault of my growling, hungry stomach.
“Yap! Yap!”
I skillfully wielded my fork and started devouring the “resistance forces” on the table. Bora and Haru laughed at my dignified actions as they ate.
“Hana, you don’t have to eat so fast.”
“Maybe it’s because she didn’t eat anything after lunch, but Hana is eating really well.”
Bora and Haru just watched me eat, occasionally sipping champagne and picking at their food with forks.
I kept eating until my stomach was full. The food that seemed so abundant earlier disappeared like the wind. Of course, I wasn’t the only one eating. Bora and Haru also ate, and the office employees came by to grab a bite too.
I forgave them because I’m generous. If I weren’t full, I wouldn’t have forgiven them for stealing food.
As the food disappeared, I held my protruding stomach. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten this much before. I should probably take some digestive medicine to avoid a stomachache tomorrow.
Bora and Haru exchanged glances and then brought something from outside. It was a carefully wrapped gift box. My eyes lit up as I turned my gaze to the gift box. What could be inside? Last time, I bought Lumi’s bag, so maybe this time it’s a pencil case or other school supplies?
“Hana, open it. It’s a gift.”
At Haru’s words, I hurriedly started unwrapping the package. But the gift was unexpected.
“Isn’t this pajamas?”
It looked similar to the dinosaur pajamas I used to wear. I had to throw away one pair of dinosaur pajamas after I outgrew them, so it seemed like they bought this as a replacement. Now I have two pairs of dinosaur pajamas to alternate between.
“Try it on, Hana.”
At Bora’s words, I put on the dinosaur pajamas. When I pulled down the hood, it was the perfect birth of a cool dinosaur.
I wiggled my butt and moved my tail in joy.
But that wasn’t the end.
Bora silently turned off the lights in the room.
In the mirror, my figure glowed faintly in the dark.
That’s right, these weren’t just ordinary dinosaur pajamas—they were glow-in-the-dark dinosaur pajamas!
“Wow!”
I couldn’t help but scream in surprise.
