Chapter 139: I Was Wrong
Poor Arthur had no clue that Airael’s sudden coldness wasn’t due to him asking her questions, but rather because she felt she had been shortchanged.
They had spent a few days together, yet she still hadn’t received any heartfelt gifts from him!
Arthur was completely oblivious to this fact.
After all, it was the first time this iron tree had ever bloomed.
Although he had seen pigs run before, it was one thing to have seen it and quite another to master it instantly.
If he could have mastered it that quickly, he wouldn’t really be a stubborn iron tree.
And of course, Airael hadn’t reminded Arthur of this.
As she always said, if she told him to do something, it would change everything.
This had to be something Arthur figured out on his own and acted upon.
At this rate, it’s safe to say their journey together was still quite long.
Even though they were quite close—one could even describe their distance as negative—it felt like they were worlds apart.
After a long silence in the room, the already somewhat guilty Arthur finally mustered the courage to say, “Ailia, I was overthinking it earlier. I’m sorry!”
“Hmph—!”
His attitude seemed really sincere, but Airael merely snorted and turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
Arthur, witnessing this scene, couldn’t help but feel exasperated.
Was that not enough? He’d already admitted his fault!
Airael sneaked a glance at Arthur after suppressing a laugh.
Maybe it was because she had lost to him that morning, but watching Arthur make a fool of himself brought her a strange sense of joy.
Of course, she couldn’t let any of this show.
As for the gift situation, she pushed that aside. She was well aware that Arthur was a stubborn iron tree, and who knows how long it would take him to realize this!
But seriously, fighting against her laughter was quite the struggle!
Under Airael’s deliberate concealment, Arthur, who was feeling internally chaotic and unable to concentrate, didn’t pick up on her odd behavior.
“What do I have to do for you to forgive me?”
Arthur looked at Airael and asked.
His humble demeanor surprised her.
She didn’t expect him to humble himself this much to seek her forgiveness.
Airael could tell that Arthur was a proud person.
This side of him made her heart warm.
She wasn’t heartless; she couldn’t ignore what those around her did for her.
“You want me to forgive you?”
Airael looked at Arthur and countered.
She decided to give him a chance.
“Yes!”
Arthur nodded vigorously at Airael.
That slightly sulky behavior almost made her melt.
She realized that just now, Arthur seemed a bit… “adorable”!
Absolutely adorable!
Oh heavens! Please spare me! I can barely resist this cuteness—how am I supposed to handle this?!
Totally unable to resist!
After a surge of tumultuous emotions, Airael watched Arthur and continued, “Then tell me what you realized was wrong earlier.”
“I shouldn’t have come to you with just my one-sided opinions.”
Arthur looked at Airael seriously as he recounted his realization.
However, Airael nodded once, then shook her head.
This sudden flip made Arthur’s momentary happiness plummet.
His little heart could barely handle it.
“Isn’t that it?”
He gazed at Airael in disbelief.
“That’s only part of it.”
Airael replied earnestly.
“You still have time to think about what else you did wrong. Just get back to me before tonight.”
Upon hearing this, Arthur opened his mouth as if to argue, but after giving it some thought, he decided to shut it.
More words could lead to more trouble; if he wasn’t careful, he could end up annoying Airael even more.
Thinking of this, Arthur sighed internally: Women are such a hassle!
But since Airael was involved, he had no choice but to overlook this.
Women’s hearts are as deep as the ocean!
If Arthur had known this saying, he’d surely relate to it deeply.
Airael looked at Arthur and said with a smile, “You can leave now; I’d like some time alone.”
“Then I’m off.”
Now that Airael had given him the boot, Arthur had to leave.
He was genuinely scared of Airael now.
He feared that he might accidentally aggravate this ancestral deity.
With that, Arthur stood up and walked towards the door.
Just before leaving, he couldn’t help but glance back at Airael, only to find her smiling at him.
Though her smile was charming, it also carried the message: “No need to see you out.”
Sighing, Arthur exited Airael’s room and closed the door behind him.
Then he walked up to his own room, opened the door, and stepped inside.
Inside the room, Arthur stood at the door, feeling a mix of emotions as he gazed around.
This was the first time he had been alone in this room for the past two days.
The rest of the time had been spent with Airael.
Somehow, he had grown used to her company.
So seeing her not return with him, but stay across the hall, left his heart feeling rather complicated.
Especially with Airael’s earlier clear warning: “You accidentally made me angry; you need to quickly find out what you did wrong and apologize, or don’t expect my forgiveness.”
This put a lot of pressure on Arthur.
He truly had no clue what he had done.
Where had he accidentally provoked Airael, this little ancestral figure?
Arthur started to reflect.
Since Airael’s change had occurred today, he first recalled what happened earlier.
And today’s memories were quite vivid.
He immediately thought of the duel he had with Airael that morning.
In their fight, he had used a little trick that allowed him to easily defeat her.
Could that be the cause?
Arthur wondered.
But then again, it didn’t seem likely.
They had settled that matter peacefully afterward.
Though he had won, Airael still achieved her original goal, albeit with some cost.
He didn’t believe Airael would hold a grudge over something so trivial.
Then what else could it be?
Arthur continued to think but just couldn’t figure it out.
He should’ve done two wrong things today, one of which seemed impossible and another which Airael had already denied.
So what was it?
