Chapter 135: Battle Mages Are Mages Too
The clash between one man and one beast was a boiling cauldron of blood and adrenaline.
At times like this, it wasn’t just strength on the line, but also willpower.
Both sides were holding their breath; whoever faltered first would lose.
And losing meant death!
For such a battle, the audience in the stands was equally stirred up.
The cheers from their mouths echoed without end.
Despite the lively atmosphere around them, Airael and her companions remained calm.
After all, they were seasoned veterans who wouldn’t lose control so easily.
However, it couldn’t be denied that this kind of battle was indeed captivating.
It even made Airael feel like jumping into the fray herself.
She subconsciously glanced at Arthur beside her, only to find him equally restless.
With a slight smile, she said, “You must really enjoy such exhilarating fights!”
“For a warrior, such battles are rare and precious,” Arthur responded seriously.
He could see that the man and beast were no longer just testing their strengths; they were testing their endurance as well.
A battle of endurance was far more valuable than a simple contest of strength.
A warrior could seize opportunities for promotion during such times.
Yet, the lion as an opponent was still somewhat lacking.
Otherwise, Cain might have made even greater strides.
If that were the case, going up against Cain would spell trouble for him.
Lost in thought, Arthur was unsure of what to say next.
While it was good for him, it was a shame to see such an opportunity go to waste.
Of course, he couldn’t say Cain would gain nothing—it was just that his gains would be limited and not maximal.
“I also enjoy these kinds of battles, but you know, I’m not really a warrior. I’m more of a mage,” Airael said with a slight sigh.
Being a hybrid of magic and martial arts had its advantages—both ranged and close combat.
But at the end of the day, the two paths clashed with one another.
A warrior needed that spirit of facing danger head-on, persevering until the end.
However, a mage didn’t need that at all.
Mages were more about the accumulation of knowledge.
Otherwise, having lots of magic power wouldn’t help if you couldn’t cast potent spells.
Though she’d already broken through to the hero tier in magic, her martial skills were still at a high level, merely enhanced by her magic.
Dual training represented two completely different paths.
This would certainly require more time for improvement.
Of course, Airael had considered merging the two and truly walking the path of a Battle Mage.
But that required a lot of time for testing.
Some things couldn’t simply be achieved by mere desire or in one fell swoop.
“Aren’t you walking the path of the Battle Mage?” Arthur asked, voicing his curiosity.
The battle below continued.
However, the lion was starting to waver.
Its willpower was strong but ultimately limited by various factors.
Moreover, Cain’s endurance was no less impressive.
At this, Airael showed a hint of embarrassment.
The idea of being a Battle Mage had merely been talk before.
But it was only right that she didn’t leave Arthur’s question unanswered.
“Well, a Battle Mage is still a kind of mage, leaning slightly more toward being a mage,” Airael formulated after much thought.
Arthur nodded, not pressing further.
Though he found it somewhat unconvincing, Airael’s words weren’t entirely without reason.
A Battle Mage was, after all, still a mage.
After this little detour, they returned their attention to the match below.
At this moment, Cain was preparing for a new round of clash with the lion.
And this clash was likely to be their final showdown.
The battle had dragged on for a while, and both the man and the beast bore some wounds.
Of course, the lion was the worst off.
The magical beast let out a roar before charging.
“Roar—!”
The roar rang out through the heavens, embodying the dignity of a high-tier magical beast.
Many spectators were momentarily stunned.
However, this did not affect Cain.
He remained silent, adjusting himself to his optimal state, ready to end the protracted battle with the lion.
In the next instant, both man and beast charged at each other.
The lion’s sharp claws were poised to attack, while Cain held his long sword high and tight, ready to strike.
As they were about to collide, both of them leaped powerfully toward one another.
They created a deep crater in the ground beneath them.
The audience’s eyes widened as they watched the scene unfold.
Though the lion was large and seemed strong, the heights they reached in their leaps were nearly identical, with Cain even slightly higher.
Leaping higher was quite advantageous for Cain.
Seeing the lion, now lower than himself, Cain swung down his already charged sword without hesitation.
The lion, feeling powerless, could only look up helplessly at the descending blade.
With one last roar, it howled, “Roar—!”
The spectators only saw a flash of the sharp blade in the air, and the next moment, there was a spray of blood as the lion’s head was severed from its body, crashing heavily to the ground.
Simultaneously, Cain, now splattered in blood, landed firmly on the ground.
Though he looked quite disheveled and messy, in contrast to the slain lion beside him, he emanated an aura of tremendous appeal.
Surrounding spectators were captivated by his charisma.
“Cain! Cain! Cain!…”
The excited audience shouted his name, cheering for his victory.
The entire Grand Arena and the nearby areas were engulfed by their cheers.
Listening to the uproar around him, Cain surveyed the crowd, a slight smile forming at the corners of his mouth.
Such scenes, such images, were enough to make anyone happy.
However, his footsteps wouldn’t end here.
Arthur watched Cain with a smile.
Just moments ago, he had seen ambition and desire in Cain’s eyes.
But that was only natural.
No one would believe that those participating in the competition lacked ambition or desire.
There weren’t that many people in the world who were completely selfless.
He had previously been a reluctant participant.
But was he not changed now?
