Chapter 31: Let’s Talk About It
Walking into the underground parking station, the noise from the restaurant was no longer audible. Finally, Yuan Xiaoling could relax.
To be honest, there were too many people back then, especially when she stepped out and saw the scene in the hall—it genuinely gave her a fright.
The once luxurious hall was now in shambles, barely better than ruins. The stairway on the fourth floor was packed with people, each holding a ball of spiritual energy, all sorts of attributes included. Though their powers weren’t top-notch, they made up for it in numbers. Without any defensive abilities, one would’ve been pummeled to death.
Thankfully, she hadn’t gone out with them at that time.
”Bai Ling, did your plan succeed?” she asked.
”Hmm,” Bai Ling casually fastened her seatbelt. “It should’ve worked.”
Judging by what happened during the banquet, those young masters were extremely arrogant, while their elders still followed the ‘Dark Forest Rule.’
So, after today’s lesson, two triggers were activated: “How dare you embarrass me so much! I must take revenge” and “According to the Dark Forest Rule, we’ve become enemies, and it must be dealt with.”
Then again, since the displayed strength was only up to Fourth-tier, it allowed the opponents to slightly lower their guard. Plus, no lives were taken, not provoking them enough to reach the point of “killing her at all costs.” This way, the Hai Tian Chamber wouldn’t launch an all-out assault.
In short, they had a way to kill her, but not many.
Considering all these factors, Bai Ling believed that within a few days, she’d likely get a direct conversation opportunity with the Murong family head, allowing her to find out about her parents.
Now, all she needed to do was wait for news.
As the Benz drove onto the highway, gradually moving away from the Tianhai Grand Hotel, Yuan Xiaoling finally relaxed completely. Recalling the scenes from the treacherous feast, a surge of heroic sentiment welled up inside her.
”Bai Ling, let me tell you, after you left, I performed perfectly.”
”Hmm?”
”First, I provoked that Murong guy, making him team up with that Wang someone. I didn’t fear them one bit.”
”Hmm.”
Bai Ling knew that Wang Chengze had been knocked into the wall by her earlier and couldn’t participate in the battle, but she didn’t bother exposing Yuan Xiaoling’s exaggeration; instead, she silently listened to Blonde-haired Maiden boast.
”You won’t believe this, but that Murong guy is like a brute gorilla. When he uses his abilities, his muscles bulge out, looking terrifying,” Yuan Xiaoling mimicked with her little fists. “He punches the air, and it makes a thunderous sound.”
”Oh?”
”And it’s not just him throwing punches; that Wang guy behind him gives pointers, teaching him how to fight. Solo fighting with a coach? So cringy, don’t you think?”
”Hmm.”
”But even so, two-on-one doesn’t matter. I took them both down in one move. They didn’t last more than 15 minutes against me. They didn’t even have the chance to surrender.”
Being in the spotlight for the first time, Blonde-haired Maiden was quite excited. She usually exaggerated her victories in front of her roommates, but winning for real today meant she could brag until next semester!
After boasting for a while, she finally got tired and rested for a moment. Yuan Xiaoling rubbed her eyes and looked out the car window, puzzled. “Bai Ling, where are we going?”
It didn’t seem like the way back to school.
”I’m taking you to eat,” Bai Ling said. “We barely ate before the fight started, so you must be hungry.”
”Why not go back to the cafeteria?” Yuan Xiaoling tilted her head.
She remembered Bai Ling wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about food, staying in school partly because eating at the cafeteria was convenient.
”You’ve been traveling for so long to get here,” Bai Ling said calmly. “I can’t let you leave without having a meal.”
Yuan Xiaoling blinked.
So, it’s because of me that you’re eating?
”How was the lobster today?” Bai Ling asked.
”Delicious!” Yuan Xiaoling immediately shifted her attention. “Super delicious!”
But soon, she became disheartened. “Unfortunately, I probably won’t get to eat it again.”
After today’s face-off and fight, returning there would be impossible. Other places wouldn’t have the monopolized ingredients or dishes controlled by others.
”Hmph, that’s not certain,” Bai Ling chuckled coldly. “Who knows how many families will remain in this chamber.”
The beach is still there, and the origin of Tianhai Lobster is still there; it’ll just have a different contractor.
Next, Bai Ling took her to another well-reputed Chinese restaurant found via mobile phone navigation.
Unlike the Tianhai Grand Hotel, which focused on expensive ingredients, the food here was simple and relied entirely on the chef’s skills. Roast chicken, potatoes, lotus leaf duck, steamed yellow croaker, and Lemonade—her favorite.
The home-style dishes weren’t as extravagant, but they were hearty and paired well with rice. A big bowl of carbs filled her stomach, and drowsiness quickly overtook her.
”Haa~h.”
Bai Ling watched her stretch her arms lightly, nearly popping open her collar.
”Tired?”
”Yeah, a little… mainly because I’m full… though fighting also made me sleepy.”
Mainly because she ate too much, Bai Ling thought, finding it amusing.
She brought Yuan Xiaoling back to the car. As soon as she sat down, Blonde-haired Maiden leaned her head and fell sound asleep.
Even though she woke up late today, participating in a battle and contributing the most crucial force, achieving a KDA of 2/0, was exhausting work.
Zzzz
By evening, the sky was getting dark. University students finished their day’s classes and returned to their dormitories to rest.
”Hey, do you think,” Qiao Lili asked, “that Xiaoling will come back tonight?”
Gu Hui shook her head. “I don’t know, depends on Bai Ling’s mood…”
Qiao Lili closed her computer and climbed to the upper bunk, checking the electronic calendar.
”Hey, speaking of which,” she suddenly remembered, “is Bai Ling going to take Xiaoling out for Children’s Day?”
Gu Hui: “She definitely will.”
On regular days, she occasionally attacked Xiaoling, so holidays were bound to bring something bigger.
”I think so too, and it’ll be something big. Like Bai Ling buying a lolita outfit and forcing Xiaoling to wear it, then…”
Excited by her own thoughts, Qiao Lili sat up, only to notice someone standing at the door.
It was the subject of their discussion.
”Bai…Ling, why are you here?” Qiao Lili was startled.
”She fell asleep, so I brought her back.”
Only then did Qiao Lili and Gu Hui notice Yuan Xiaoling soundly sleeping on Bai Ling’s back. She didn’t wake up even with people talking beside her, clearly sleeping very deeply.
Turtle, what kind of intense “battle” did they endure to get this exhausted?
Bai Ling gently placed Yuan Xiaoling on the bed, covered her with a blanket, and turned to look at the two of them.
”What were you discussing just now?”
Qiao Lili thought Bai Ling was upset about being talked about behind her back and hurriedly explained, “Nothing, just a misunderstanding…”
”No, I want to ask about the Children’s Day costume you mentioned earlier,” Bai Ling interrupted her. “Let’s talk about it.”
Qiao Lili and Gu Hui exchanged glances.
”Well, there’s a lot to say about that…”
…
Many things happened that day. Even deep into the night, several floors of Tianhai Tower remained brightly lit.
At Tianhai Grand Hospital, the best private hospital in Tianhai City, a doctor wiped the sweat off his brow and walked out.
”The two young masters are fine, just some water inhalation and minor injuries from falling. They’ll recover with some rest.”
Not daring to stay any longer, he quickly went back into the examination room.
Outside stood two men. One was Murong Yi, chairman of Yunhai Company and co-founder of Hai Tian Yi Se. The other was Wang Xingsheng, chairman of Xing Sheng Group and president of Hai Tian Yi Se Chamber.
”President Wang, those kids have confessed everything,” Murong Yi whispered. “This time it was all because of two girls, one of whom is…”
Wang Xingsheng raised his hand. “No need to say more, I already know.”
The message was brought back by the young group, and Murong Yi knew that he obviously knew too.
Seeing his expression, Murong Yi wisely shut his mouth and quietly stood beside him.
Wang Xingsheng paced back and forth outside the examination room. After a while, he looked at him with a grim face.
”Call Old Zhou and Old Huang. We need a meeting tomorrow.”
