Chapter 103: The Young Man is Full of Energy
After checking into the inn, I fell asleep in the room, and by the time I woke up, it was already the next day.
After sharing breakfast, Airael asked Axi, “Should we head to the Tower of the Archmage right away, or should we prepare well before going?”
Airael personally preferred the latter option.
After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Though they were aware of the existence of the Tower of the Archmage, their knowledge about it was quite limited.
Right now, Axi’s opinion took precedence.
Not to mention, Axi was the core leader of the group, and this matter was certainly his call.
Axi wore a pensive expression, and after quite some time, he finally replied, “Let’s prepare well before heading there.”
Though he was initially in a hurry, he wasn’t feeling that way at this crucial last leg of the journey.
After all, they were just one step away; it made sense to play it safe.
Thus, his thoughts aligned with Airael’s at this moment.
Before visiting the Tower of the Archmage, they needed to gain a better understanding of it.
Especially its current master—Andrew.
While they were gathering intel about the Tower of the Archmage in Lanahl City, their movements were also detected by the people at the Tower.
Being a power that had persisted for centuries, the Tower of the Archmage had firmly established itself in Lanahl City.
To put it bluntly, this was their lair.
Therefore, even though they were operating discreetly, they still got noticed.
Meanwhile, inside the Tower of the Archmage, the current master, Andrew, sat at the main seat, listening to a report from a young male mage below him.
Though he looked quite aged, his eyes sparkled with brilliance, showcasing his extraordinary nature.
Upon hearing that someone was inquiring about the Tower of the Archmage and himself in Lanahl City, Andrew remained calm.
“Can you find out who they are?”
“Not yet. For now, we can only confirm they are outsiders and not locals.”
“Outsiders, huh?”
“Exactly.”
“As long as they haven’t done anything harmful, we needn’t bother with them for the time being.”
After a moment of thought, Andrew reached a decision.
“But…”
The young male mage wanted to add something, but Andrew interrupted, “Phil, we have more important matters to attend to. If we took every outsider seriously, as a great power, we’d be overwhelmed dealing with countless such cases every day.”
“But they’re quite special; I have a feeling they’re not ordinary.”
Phil voiced his concerns.
“Special? In what way are they special?”
Andrew’s curiosity was piqued, prompting him to ask.
Phil was one of his capable disciples. Even though he was relatively new to the outside world, he had displayed some skill.
“I can’t quite put my finger on it, but they just feel different.”
“In that case, keep an eye on them. Remember, be careful and don’t act rashly.”
“Yes!”
Inspired by his teacher’s words, Phil perked up and stepped back.
Watching Phil leave, a slight smile broke Andrew’s previously tense expression.
Young people really are full of energy!
……
Back at the inn where Airael and the others were staying.
After busying themselves through a new day, they returned to discuss the intel they had gathered, much like before.
What seemed a casual inquiry turned out to reveal that the Tower of the Archmage was far stronger than they had imagined.
If magic originated from the Elven Race, then most of the magical factions currently circulated among humans had some connection to the Tower of the Archmage.
The Tower of the Archmage was considered a holy site by every human mage.
Every mage dreamed of coming here to learn, even if they didn’t get accepted as students.
As for disciples, those were even further from their thoughts.
Airael and the others had been blissfully unaware of all this before.
While they knew of the Tower’s existence, their knowledge barely scratched the surface.
Axi, being a warrior, didn’t have much leisure to keep up with mage affairs.
Though Airael was a mage herself, her elven upbringing made her somewhat dismissive of human magic.
And indeed, that dismissal was justified.
When it came to magic, humans were inherently weaker than elves.
What’s more, this gap couldn’t purely be bridged by hard work.
Magic truly demanded talent.
Thus, she didn’t pay much attention to human magic.
As for other information, it’s not necessary to elaborate further here.
The inquiries over the past couple of days had indeed provided Airael and the others with a more detailed understanding of the Tower of the Archmage and gave them confidence for their next steps.
After exchanging the intel they had gathered, Axi’s eyes fixed intently on Airael.
At that moment, he wasn’t captivated by Airael’s beauty; he had something else in mind.
Airael felt a bit guilty under Axi’s gaze.
“Ailia, have you been to the Tower of the Archmage before?”
“No!” Airael honestly responded.
Knowing she could not hide this, she answered openly.
Axi nodded.
“Why do you ask that all of a sudden?”
“Just curious; it seems your knowledge about the Tower isn’t that extensive.”
“Even if I have some relationship with the Tower of the Archmage, does that mean I have to know everything about it? For example, one can’t possibly visit every distant relative, right? It’s normal to have some unfamiliar family members, okay?”
Airael replied with displeasure.
“Yes, yes, yes! You’re right, Ailia; I was wrong to doubt you.”
Facing the fury of Airael, Axi didn’t dare to argue, especially since Airael’s reasoning made sense.
To avoid a fiery backlash, he wisely admitted his mistake.
Seeing Axi swayed by her, Airael felt quite pleased in her heart.
“Since you’ve apologized so sincerely, I’ll forgive you this time, but don’t let it happen again.”
“Yes, I promise to never do that again.”
Hearing Axi’s promise, Airael felt relieved.
Just speaking of her identity was indeed a problem!
Even though she pretended to be human and looked no different, her identity wouldn’t withstand too much scrutiny.
“Ailia!”
Noticing Airael suddenly lost in thought, Axi called out.
“What is it?”
Airael snapped back to attention, looking at Axi.
“Since we’ve gained a certain understanding of the Tower of the Archmage, I plan to visit it tomorrow.”
“Sounds good!”
Airael didn’t refuse.
They had done their homework, and now it was time to put their knowledge to the test!
