Chapter 54: The Danger Returns Again
“Not uncomfortable at all!”
Axi shook his head, replying, “It’s just that I don’t have a suitable weapon right now.”
“Then what is that you’re carrying on your back?”
Airael asked, a bit annoyed.
At this moment, she was genuinely a little angry.
It was truly outrageous for him to lie like that right in front of her!
Axi paused for a moment, then said, “This sword I can’t use for now.”
“Why?”
Airael continued questioning.
Hearing Axi’s words, her anger faded, replaced by a keen curiosity.
It seemed this sword really held a great secret.
“I don’t really know why either.”
Axi didn’t seem like he was lying, leaving Airael utterly confused.
She decided not to press the matter further.
Clearly, even if Axi knew, he wouldn’t tell her.
With her mind racing, Airael started to imagine boldly based on the little information she had just gathered.
How could the master of a sword not use it?
Was there a certain requirement to wield this sword? Otherwise, why couldn’t he pull it from its sheath?
Or could it be that this was a “cursed” magic sword, requiring a price from the wielder before it could be used?
While Airael and Axi rested and regrouped in the small town, the Wolf Cavalry of the Orcs were rampaging and plundering in the northern part of the Nick Kingdom.
Although the death of Sam disturbed the Orcs’ initial plan, the newly appointed Sko quickly picked up where they left off and continued the operation.
Besides looting food, Sko was secretly pursuing other goals.
The task was to find the culprits who killed Sam—namely Axi and Airael.
Sko was not particularly concerned with the Dragon Beasts or Giant Bears; the real focus was Axi and Airael.
If he wasn’t mistaken, it was precisely because Axi and Airael had disrupted the Orcs’ looting plan that led Sam to chase after them with his personal guard.
But instead of killing them, Sam ended up being the one who lost his life.
Now, Sko had three main reasons for hunting down Axi and Airael.
The first reason came from his personal ambition.
Though he was now the commander of the Wolf Cavalry, he was a temporary appointee with little prestige.
At a time like this, he needed a way to boost his own credibility.
And what better way to assert his dominance than catching or killing the one who murdered the previous commander?
The second reason was a directive from above.
The Beast King naturally held a grudge against Axi and Airael.
If he could eliminate those two, it would undoubtedly earn him substantial achievements and stabilize his position in the Beast King’s eyes.
The third reason was tied to the current mission.
Sko was taking over Sam’s looting mission.
Axi and Airael were the disruptors of this looting task, and disposing of them would aid him in completing his mission smoothly.
With these three reasons combined, the new commander Sko of the Orc Wolf Cavalry practically itched to eliminate Axi and Airael right away.
However, diligent persistence paid off, and after days of searching, Sko finally located the current whereabouts of Axi and Airael.
In the woods outside the small town, Sko, robust like Sam, sat atop a Riding Wolf, glaring at the human town protected by city walls with a menacing expression.
He never anticipated such an outcome.
After doing such things, those two humans actually hid themselves in a town!
Although the town’s walls were not very high, only about four meters, it still presented an obstacle for them.
Their strategy for raiding involved being fast; they generally targeted unprotected towns and villages without walls.
Moreover, even if they had siege weapons, they typically wouldn’t raid towns guarded by walls.
Towns protected by walls usually had decent defensive forces, making them a tough nut to crack.
Thus, the effort versus reward could easily become unmatched.
“My lord, are we going to attack the city next?”
Seeing Sko remain silent, one of the Orcs hesitantly asked.
Sko didn’t answer immediately, still scowling at the walled human town in front of him.
At that moment, he was mentally cursing Axi and Airael.
What a pair of cowards!
Having done something so bold, why were they hiding now?
Were they too afraid to stay outside and wait for him to find them?
The more Sko thought about it, the angrier he became.
He truly wanted to give the order to attack the human town right then and there, flatten it, and turn those two along with the townsfolk into their rations!
At this moment, Sko exuded such a strong negative aura that the surrounding Orcs felt rather uncomfortable.
Being capable of taking over Sam’s position, Sko was certainly no weakling.
Under the influence of this oppressive atmosphere, the nearby Orcs dared not utter a word.
Inside the town, Airael and Axi were practicing against each other.
At that moment, Axi had retrieved his weapon and armor.
Suddenly, both of them instinctively heard something and furrowed their brows, looking at each other.
“Do you feel something strange?” Airael asked.
Axi nodded slightly.
“It seems something big is about to happen.”
Airael sighed softly.
Something unusual must be happening.
In this inherently unusual world, it wasn’t too surprising that some people sensed certain premonitions ahead of time.
Not to mention, it wasn’t just her; Axi felt that something was off too.
“These days, we have indeed been living too peacefully,” Axi sighed back.
During their conversation, Sko outside the town finally made up his mind.
His resolve was summed up in one word—”Attack!”
If he didn’t strike, he couldn’t swallow this grievance.
Though the Orcs might suffer some losses, he believed that as long as they could achieve the desired results, sacrificing a little was no big deal.
The Orcs weren’t afraid of sacrifice.
Especially not on the battlefield.
Right now, Sko wanted nothing more than to see Axi, Airael, and the people in this small town dead!
He wanted them all to become his food supplies.
For that, launching a siege and sacrificing a few Orcs would hardly be a big deal.
However, Sko didn’t act recklessly.
He knew he needed to prepare well.
For example, gathering enough manpower and crafting some temporary siege weapons.
Only with ample preparation could he carry out the attack to gain the greatest victory with minimal losses.
