Chapter 81

“A professor at Jerion Academy.”

These are the top talents in the empire.

Jerion Academy trains heroes to stop the greatest enemies of the world known as Magung.

So, naturally, the professors couldn’t just be picked randomly.

Every professor working at Jerion Academy is outstanding in their skills.

Most of them were legendary heroes who had made significant achievements in Magung.

Their fame is sky-high.

However, still water runs deep.

Among those professors who were once called heroes, some have decayed over time.

The greed of humans knows no bounds.

Living as a professor at Jerion Academy, they have seized wealth and honor completely.

Yet, there are those who still yearn for more.

Back in their school days, there was a guy who clung to being the perennial second place and obsessed over the top spot.

3rd Year Magic Arts Professor, Barkio Lavlijan.

He was a doomed genius who was overshadowed by the Lord of the Blue Magic Tower.

He is also quite infamous among his students.

He often disregards weak students and isn’t shy about mocking them.

Thus, among the students, his reputation is the worst.

Nonetheless, Professor Barkio has aged, and his body feels heavy all over.

But he still vividly remembers past events.

The humiliating memory of having even the title of Tower Lord stolen from him by an unreachable genius.

He has long wished to create his own magic tower.

Back in his student days, he thought it was the only way to regain his crushed pride.

However, the empire already has the Blue Tower and Yellow Tower, both at the pinnacle of magic.

It was no longer possible to establish another tower.

Therefore, he has allied with a kingdom outside the empire.

In exchange for building a tower for Barkio, they have siphoned off imperial secrets and funds from Jerion Academy.

Now, with only the exile to the kingdom left to do.

A situation he never saw coming has occurred.

A trivial group of students known as the Student Council Boycott group.

They exploded the truth about his wrongdoings during the foundation festival.

Barkio’s eyes went wide.

Maybe if it were after his exile, but if this got out now, he would most likely face execution.

‘Not yet, it’s not over yet.’

The news has only spread within Jerion Academy for now.

If he could burn all the gossipers and escape to exile immediately, he might make it out.

‘Above all.’

The top-secret documents he prepared for his final transaction with the exiled kingdom are in his private office.

Jerion Academy doesn’t allow outsiders to enter recklessly.

Thus, his private office was perfect for hiding top-secret documents.

But he never expected an incident would occur from within.

He hurriedly opened the door to his office.

On the way in, he let out all his pent-up frustration on the Student Council Boycotters who crossed his path.

It was the perfect punishment for those lacking students.

Now, he needed to hurry and find the documents and reduce the remaining ones to ashes.

Just as he was about to grab the documents, it happened.

Click! Bang!

The door to his private office slammed shut again.

In the dark room.

The moonlight spilling through the window illuminated Barkio’s private office.

As Barkio slowly turned his head, there stood a familiar face.

“Huh?”

A hollow laugh escaped Barkio’s lips upon seeing the figure.

A man with striking white hair and amber eyes.

His face might have been impressive, but in terms of magic, he was the worst of anyone.

“Bickamon?”

Bickamon Niflheim.

The pathetic failure who had been expelled from Jerion Academy stood there.

Bickamon was the least magically talented person Barkio could recall.

He was so lacking that he faced the most ridicule during Magic Arts classes.

And now, he appeared before Barkio.

Barkio’s gaze turned cold.

“I see. So it was you.”

Stunned surprise danced across Barkio’s face.

“You led this, didn’t you? To get back at me.”

For being mocked by him.

In revenge, Bickamon exposed the truth under the guise of a boycott.

Barkio couldn’t fathom how he discovered his corruption.

But he had no intentions to forgive Bickamon, who dared to challenge him.

“You reckless fool, do you know who you’re messing with? I’ll make you regret this.”

Barkio pulled out his wand from his waist.

At this, Bickamon slightly frowned but soon said,

“What nonsense are you talking about?”

With that declaration, Barkio unleashed his specialty, electric magic.

The explosive cascade of magical power pouring from him clearly showed why he was a 3rd Year Magic Arts Professor.

Boom!

Black lightning surged throughout the room in an instant.

Bickamon merely stood there, staring blankly at the oncoming lightning.

Just as Barkio was sure of his death.

Crackle!

The unleashed lightning magic was suddenly drawn into Bickamon’s hand.

In it was a ring.

Barkio was clueless.

He had no idea that he and Bickamon were the worst match for each other.

Bickamon possessed the Ancient Dragon’s Wrath.

This allowed him to absorb all lightning except for the strikes sent by the lightning god.

In simpler terms, it meant that Barkio’s specialty magic wouldn’t work on him.

BAM!

Just before Barkio could show his confusion.

Bickamon was already right in front of him.

He shot from his feet with an explosion beneath him.

Magic Seal, explosion.

As Bickamon detonated it from his own feet and reached Barkio.

Barkio responded as if the past glories were not false.

With his magical power, he conjured a wall of flames from the tip of his wand.

No one is stupid enough to try to break through a wall of high heat.

It was only natural for Bickamon to retreat.

“Looks like you came prepared to deal with me after all!”

“Sorry, but surpassing me, a Jerion Academy Magic Arts Professor, isn’t that easy.”

Thinking that Bickamon would surely back off.

Swoosh!

But here stood a fool who dared to plunge right through the fiery wall.

“What?!”

Barkio felt a headache coming from this second surprise.

Bickamon threw a fist aimed straight at his head.

Bang!

Barkio was sent tumbling, crashing into the furniture in his office.

Though startled, he managed to wrap a defensive magic around his face.

“Ugh, you lunatic.”

Is there really a crazed idiot who would leap through a fire wall with their bare body?

He was so bewildered he couldn’t throw out a proper spell.

Nevertheless, he did break through the wall of flames.

With his body scorched from the high heat, he wouldn’t be able to move.

“Heh heh, foolish one.”

Just then, as he thought that and tried to rise.

Thud!

Barkio immediately froze as he felt a weight pressing down on him.

He hurriedly looked up.

There stood Bickamon, glowing in the moonlight streaming through the window.

His clothes showed signs of being scorch-marked.

Yet, there wasn’t a single burn mark on his body.

Barkio showed a look of disbelief.

He had broken into his fire wall, yet he didn’t get burned at all?!

That couldn’t be true.

“It’s just warm enough.”

Bickamon’s iron-like body.

There lay the flames of fire within him.

His body, originally resistant to fire, now had even greater resistance.

Moreover, he had been exploding from magic seals every day.

Now, his body had reached a state where ordinary fire could do nothing.

Amidst the moonlight, Bickamon’s amber eyes glimmered ominously.

Thud!

Barkio helplessly felt his heart sink.

Already twice, his proud magic had failed to inflict any harm.

Students would have already been electrocuted to a crisp by now.

Yet, Bickamon stood unharmed.

Nothing made sense to Barkio, and fear crept into him.

“W-what?! Where do you think you’re stepping?!”

He swung his wand in a last ditch effort.

Electric magic failed, fire walls failed.

Then only one option remained.

“Let’s see if you can freeze up and die!”

He unleashed a storm of cold that rushed into the office.

True to his specialty in high-speed magic, his spell was something even Bickamon couldn’t respond to.

Whoosh—

The inside of the office became a frozen hell.

The same went for Bickamon, who took the brunt of his magic.

He stood rigidly, completely frozen atop Barkio.

Savory glee crept into Barkio’s voice as he trembled from the cold, smiling wickedly.

“Heh, heh heh, right, a pathetic being like you is bound to lose.”

He began conjuring a high-powered light projectile to shatter the frozen Bickamon.

“Die!”

Just before he could fire off the finished projectile.

Clang!

Bickamon’s foot shot out from the frozen state in an instant.

Crack!

“Aaargh!”

Bickamon’s foot shattered Barkio’s hand holding the wand.

Barkio, stung by the pain, couldn’t keep casting his magic and dropped his wand.

Crack!

Simultaneously, Bickamon’s frozen body began to move as the ice cracked off.

A bright yellow light flashed in his right eye.

His eyes embodied a lizard-like sharpness.

Chills ran down Barkio’s spine!

That eye bore a warning for Barkio.

How dare you treat me with such pathetic ice magic?

This realization struck Barkio as animal instincts of fear surged within him.

The remnants of the ancient dragon manifested their unique ability.

Fear.

What he saw was the fear that devoured him.

Barkio’s face turned pale and cold sweat dripped down his body.

“Hik, ugh.”

The magic of the ancient dragon matched poorly against a magician.

The exception might be Sharin, who had the Milky Way, but ordinary magician Barkio had no methods to counter this.

Moreover, Barkio had become complacent, indulging in his past glories and neglecting his magical studies.

He lived solely to erect his desired magic tower.

His whole life, he believed he was a step behind the Lord of the Blue Magic Tower.

However, numerous outstanding magicians now stood before him, not just the Blue Magic Tower Lord.

Ignoring this fact, Barkio continuously thought of himself as the second fiddle.

Those intoxicated with authority and power often end up being left behind.

Bickamon raised his clenched fist.

They were merely using him in the kingdom too.

In reality, they had no intentions of building a magic tower for him.

“What dreams could a snot-nosed brat like you possibly have?”

Bickamon decided to end his dreams right there.

“Wake up from your dream.”

Bickamon brought his fist down.
