Chapter 52

“Miss Milani.” Lynn lay on the sickbed, “What does a guy have to do to make a woman have an unforgettable impression of him?”

At this, the brown-haired young girl, who was checking his condition, paused.

She glanced at Lynn and then showed a hint of worry, “I know my body is quite appealing to you, but this is a bit too early for that.”

“No one is turned on by your body,” Lynn retorted.

“Such an impolite little brat.” Milani rolled her eyes in annoyance, returning to her usual nonchalance.

She picked up a device from the side and began measuring Lynn’s head.

“Strangely enough,” she mused as she worked, “after you, I tried to hypnotize fifteen other test subjects, and not one of them responded successfully.”

“So my case is unrepeatable?” Milani looked puzzled.

In a way, she was right.

After all, those death row inmates didn’t have the Liars’ Devourer trick up their sleeves.

Lynn rolled his eyes in his mind as they chatted back and forth.

He remained completely still, going along with her examination.

“Almost forgot, Her Highness the Princess asked me to give you this.” As she reached the halfway point in her exam, Milani suddenly remembered something and tossed a small vial to Lynn.

He caught it while still lying on the sickbed and discovered a green light, shimmering like a firefly, floating inside.

He froze. “What is this?”

“That’s right,” Milani nodded. “This is the latest research achievement from Lab Eight—a divinely gifted factor that has had its original mark erased.”

“I figured you’d be quite familiar with it,” she added.

Lynn fell silent.

He was indeed very familiar.

After all, his becoming a Godforsaken had been orchestrated by the Mosgra Family.

He was even certain that the Archbishop of the Church of Heavenly Justice, the very person who had stripped him of his divine factor, was one of the masterminds behind it.

To be honest, he’d been a bit perplexed during his time in this new world.

What did the Bartleon Family have that made them so irresistible?

It was as if a pack of wolves had pounced on them.

Maybe he’d know the truth once he gets his revenge.

“A lot of resources were spent to obtain this,” Milani said seriously. “You might think her usual conduct is a bit overbearing, but at the end of the day, she does care about you.”

I’d rather not have this kind of care, Lynn thought to himself with a snicker.

Seeing Lynn fall silent, Milani didn’t press further and simply reminded him, “This is a divinely gifted factor from the ‘Sacred Awareness’ faith, and it’s currently your best option to absorb.”

“Unlike the three major churches of the Empire, this faith is primarily popular in the Silonstadt Republic on the southern continent, where most followers are scholarly individuals.”

“While they may be weaker in combat, they can offer you sharp thinking and exceptional memory, so if you aim to delve into technical research, it’s a decent route.”

“By the way, you know how to use it, right?”

“Of course.” Lynn waved it off.

But really, what did it matter? He wouldn’t use that thing anyway.

Real men fight! Even now, Lynn had no intention of changing his goal.

He wanted to possess the strongest divine factor, then single-handedly flip the whole world upside down!

To achieve this, he needed to make the future Sorceress of the End remember him forever, so she’d willingly let him become her disciple.

But it seemed his actions needed to speed up.

Otherwise, having the divine factor but failing to become a Transcendent would raise suspicions.

Sighing to himself, Lynn pondered aloud, “Speaking of which, what, in your opinion, embodies the deepest emotions? Anger? Despair?”

Milani thought for a moment before shaking her head and laughing, “Neither.”

“Then what is it?” Lynn was confused.

“Anger and despair might be strong, but they’ll eventually fade with time.” She looked at him, “What endures through time is what is deepest.”

“Like regret.”

Nothing like some adult wisdom. Wait…?

Lynn suddenly had a lightbulb moment in his head.

He seemed to know how to make the future Sorceress of the End never forget him.

“Miss, do you know anything about pharmacology?”

“Are you underestimating me?”

Knock knock.

“Come in.” Ivyst’s soft voice responded to the knock on the door.

At that moment, she had just finished a long day’s work, looking tired as she leaned against a velvet chair by the window, legs crossed, fingers twirling a glass of wine.

Her fair wrist swayed gently, allowing the crimson liquid to ripple in the moonlight.

Her earlier indifference faded, and Ivyst now appeared softer.

Having changed out of her daytime attire, she wore a thin white gown tied with ribbons, her long black hair cascading over her shoulders, exuding an intelligent and graceful aura.

But upon seeing that guy enter, a familiar smile crept onto her lips.

That previous air of grace and intellect vanished in an instant.

What took its place was her fundamental bad temper.

Seeing Lynn obediently walking into her bedroom, Ivyst was rather pleased. It seemed this guy was getting more obedient.

Obedient puppies are the cutest.

With this thought, Ivyst activated her superpower, using the Eye of the Mind mark in her palm, ready to hypnotize Lynn as he approached.

She wanted to uncover what secrets this guy was hiding during the day.

And how to establish a friendly relationship with Duke Tilius.

This was her most crucial task at the moment.

A bunch of useless wine-bags in the manor were unreliable; her only ally was that seventeen-year-old kid.

With that thought, Ivyst watched Lynn walk slowly towards her.

But just as she was about to extend her palm, the boy suddenly said, “Your Highness, I have an unusual request.”

“Your Highness, I have an unusual request.”

Staring at the stunningly beautiful woman before him, Lynn abruptly stopped in his tracks.

At this, the hand Ivyst had just raised paused midair.

She narrowed her beautiful eyes, “What is it?”

“I recall you had a ring that could reveal lies,” Lynn asked. “The one you wore when the Church sent someone.”

Has he figured it out? Well, that’s only natural.

He had been open about it all along; this wasn’t exactly a secret.

But Ivyst looked somewhat curious.

This guy seemed different tonight, a bit too calm, lacking his usual pretense of submission.

Interesting.

Ivyst took a sip of her wine and replied casually, “Yes, I do have such a ring. What about it?”

“I hope you can wear it,” Lynn suddenly bowed his head, “because I have some words I need you to judge the authenticity of personally.”

“Sure.” Ivyst was intrigued by what he was up to, so she didn’t refuse.

She took out the ring and placed it on her delicate ring finger.

“Okay, I’m starting now.”

Having fulfilled his request, Lynn nodded.

Taking a deep breath under Ivyst’s watchful gaze, he said, “The first thing I want to say is… If you get my wholehearted support, there’s at least a seventy percent chance you could win the royal selection.”

The sudden proclamation caused Ivyst’s hand to tremble slightly.

She straightened up, staring at the boy with a stunned expression.

The ring gave no response.

This meant what he said was absolutely true to him.

Though she didn’t know how he arrived at this seventy percent or whether it was trustworthy, given his impressive abilities and quick thinking during crises, Ivyst was more inclined to believe this was an accurate self-assessment.

Even if the odds weren’t truly that high, it was already a miraculous surprise for her, who had previously had nearly no chance of winning.

But why is he saying this all of a sudden? Ivyst felt a mix of excitement and confusion.

After all, this was Lynn’s first time revealing anything to her.

She hadn’t expected him to reach this level.

However, Lynn didn’t address her confusion and continued, “The second thing I want to say is that since the day I was captured until now, I have not ceased to think about freedom.”

The ring remained unresponsive.

Ivyst’s earlier good mood quickly darkened.

She was not pleased.

“You—” she started to say something, but Lynn interrupted her.

He suddenly broke into a smile, “Now that I’ve said two things, Your Highness, I’d like you to say one thing into the ring in exchange.”

“What should I say?”

Ivyst frowned.

“In my eyes, Lynn Bartleon is an independent individual with human dignity, not a plaything.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Lynn saw Ivyst’s eyes turn incredibly cold.

A wave of invisible killing intent spread out.

“Are you threatening me?” Ivyst’s voice was frosty.

Lynn didn’t answer her question; seeing her reaction, he shook his head lightly, “Not willing? If so, I have a third thing to say.”

“Ivyst, I’m already tired of you and your boring little game.” Lynn suddenly switched to a casual tone, “So let’s end all of this today.”

With that, he pulled a test tube from his pocket.

Under the light, a transparent, sticky liquid swayed within.

“This is a spirit-drowning toxin essence,” Lynn explained, calm as can be. “Ordinary humans will die from heart paralysis in less than a minute after consuming it.”

Looking at the unwavering ring and the boy’s strangely unusual words, Ivyst suddenly felt a bad premonition rising in her heart.

“What are you planning to do?”

At the same time, countless thorns quietly appeared, rushing towards Lynn in an attempt to pin him down.

But it was too late.

Seeing the hint of confusion and tension in Ivyst’s eyes, Lynn smiled.

“I’m going to… do this.”

With that, he downed the liquid from the test tube.

Don’t rush, there’s still more to come!

The villainous princess from the original story, who plans to use him for hypnosis experiments to gain control over him. At the critical moment, Lynn has a stroke of genius—he fakes the success of her experiment and uses his acting skills to deceive her. But this is only a temporary fix, as the original story foretells a tragic ending for her and everyone around her. Thus begins Lynn’s double life: outwardly pretending to be under hypnosis, while secretly preparing to escape at any moment. However, things soon take an unexpected turn… Excerpts from “Princess’s Diary”: “The experiment succeeded!” “As the only successful subject, I’ve decided to keep him by my side.” “The curse mark on my face makes me hideous in the eyes of others, but he told me I’m beautiful.” “I’m happy because what people say under hypnosis is their true feelings.” “When we were alone, on a whim, I kissed him.” “The feeling was strange and made me lose composure, but fortunately, he won’t retain the memory after the hypnosis wears off.” “So, it’s fine to be a little bolder, right?”
