Chapter 43: Young Man, Don’t Recklessly Waste Your Body
Axi may have looked down on them, but other guys definitely didn’t!
That guy was none other than the Giant Bear, who had been battling it out with the orcs up until now.
At this moment, it was surrounded by orcs, bruised and bleeding, looking utterly miserable.
However, the Giant Bear hadn’t sustained any fatal injuries from the start, and thanks to its tenacious life force, it still had plenty of fight left in it.
With all the wounds from the orcs, the Giant Bear was burning with rage against them.
Now, faced with the bear’s furious counterattack, the orcs could no longer hold their ground.
The only reason they had managed to endure for so long was that Sam, their Legion Commander, was still in action. They thought once Sam dealt with the Dragon Beast, the Giant Bear would be no problem.
But just when they hoped Sam would finish off the Dragon Beast, boom! Axi made a surprise attack and eliminated their commander.
With the pillar of support gone and facing a powerful foe they couldn’t defeat, even the fieriest orcs were starting to panic.
Yet, even with their panic, it didn’t change a thing; the Giant Bear wouldn’t let them off the hook, not to mention Airael was also in the mix!
Axi needed some time to recover, but Airael didn’t need a second more.
Once she confirmed Sam was dead, she stepped out and unleashed a barrage of magic attacks on the orcs.
The orcs noticed Airael’s presence, but they had little energy left to deal with her.
Having endured so much, their numbers were dwindling.
They could see Airael was powerful too.
Before they could even get close to her, there was a fair chance she and the Giant Bear, along with that guy who suddenly showed up and took out their commander, would wipe them out.
As they panicked even more, the orcs began to falter, ideas of escape creeping into their minds, quickly put into action.
Once Axi recovered, he joined in the slaughter against them.
Airael and Axi didn’t pursue the fleeing orcs.
But the Giant Bear chased them down.
It genuinely hated those orcs.
Watching the bear go after them, Airael and Axi exchanged glances, completely extinguishing the thought of pursuing as well.
They were originally worried they wouldn’t catch up, wasting their effort. But now that someone else was taking care of it, why not let them?
Airael walked slowly to Axi’s side, where the heart of battle had just taken place.
The scene here was a complete disaster.
Many large trees were toppled or broken in half, and some had even turned to charcoaled remains.
Axi glanced at Airael and then shifted his gaze to the fallen Dragon Beast.
Though the Dragon Beast was down, Axi could feel it wasn’t dead yet—just barely clinging to life.
However, it looked like it wouldn’t be long now.
Putting everything else aside, Axi actually admired the Dragon Beast.
Its previous battle had been incredibly exhilarating and infectious.
Not to mention, they could only take down Sam thanks to its help.
Airael, now next to him, looked at him with concern and asked, “How are you feeling?”
It was previously mentioned that Potential Activation had its pros and cons.
“I’m okay, just feeling a bit tired. I should be fine after a break.”
Hearing Axi, Airael shook her head and said, “Just resting isn’t enough; you really should eat something to replenish your strength, something nutritious as well. Otherwise, if you end up with side effects, it’s not my responsibility!”
With those last words, Airael’s face was full of mischief.
And she wasn’t lying to Axi.
However, she didn’t specify it was due to overexertion.
From the battle he had just fought, it wasn’t even close to overuse for him.
Right now, all she wanted was to crack a joke with Axi.
After all, they had survived a disaster.
A joke to lighten the mood couldn’t hurt, right?
Hearing “side effects,” Axi’s expression stiffened immediately.
He looked at Airael and asked, “There won’t be any serious side effects, right?”
He recalled the earlier incident with the horses; Airael had said they just needed a good rest…
Wait a minute, it seemed like they did need to eat!
He suddenly remembered Airael had mentioned that resting meant having food and water.
“I don’t know; such things vary from person to person. Maybe your body is tough enough to handle any side effects.”
Axi chuckled as he heard that: “I’m pretty confident in my body.”
“Is that so? Let’s hope so,” Airael said with a mysterious smile.
That smile made Axi, who was already feeling quite confident, start to waver a little in his self-assurance.
Watching this, Airael couldn’t help but laugh joyfully.
At that moment, even Axi, dim as a rock, realized something was off.
Airael was playing him.
But the irritation rising in him quickly faded away.
It had to be said, Airael’s delighted expression was quite charming.
Under her captivating beauty, feeling a bit upset didn’t seem like it would be worth it.
Airael knew when to draw the line; before long, she contained her smile and playfully said, “I was just joking back there, you didn’t mind, did you? Besides, there was some truth to it—if you mishandle magic, overexertion can lead to some serious side effects, and treatments may not even be effective, not even for gods.”
As she spoke, the atmosphere between the two became somewhat serious.
After quite a while, Axi casually laughed and said, “So as long as I manage it well, I’ll be fine.”
“While that does hold some truth, I still hope you take care with magic. Magic is powerful, but it’s also very dangerous. Your body is your greatest asset; young man, you shouldn’t recklessly waste it.”
Airael’s words darkened the now lighter atmosphere, making it serious again.
Moreover, such paternalistic advice was completely mismatched with her young and vibrant looks.
Yet, this side of her had its own unique flavor.
Looking at Airael, Axi felt his smile slowly stiffening on his face.
Finally, he looked at the serious Airael and said, “I’ll be careful moving forward.”
This Airael gave him a completely different vibe.
It was a far cry from that wild monkey he had encountered before.
To describe it, one was heavenly while the other was firmly on the ground.
“Roar~!”
Just then, the low growl of the Dragon Beast echoed beside them.
Although it was called a growl, it sounded more like a lament.
Airael just noticed that this big guy was still hanging on, not dead yet.
