Chapter 39: The Free-Loading Beasts (Happy New Year, and by the way, please support with monthly tickets qwq)
The Orcs and their Riding Wolves steadily closed in on the two Giant Beasts, led by Sam.
Although their size was considerably smaller than that of the beasts, the courage ignited by Sam filled the Orcs and their wolves with a momentum that suppressed the two behemoths.
“Roar—!”
The two Giant Beasts let out a furious roar towards the Orcs, heavily laced with warning.
Though Sam emanated a dangerously threatening aura, enough to scare them, the beasts held onto their pride and weren’t about to back down or flee just because of an aura clash.
To maintain their dignity and self-respect, the two Giant Beasts evidently reached a mutual understanding.
They temporarily put aside their previous grievances and decided to confront this formidable wave of enemies together.
Sam, unfazed by the beasts’ reactions, marched forward with his Orcs and Riding Wolves.
Thanks to the keen noses of the Riding Wolves, they picked up on the nearby human presence.
As for the other one, she had managed to conceal her scent entirely.
Clearly, she was equipped with some gear to interrupt her aura or possessed the ability to do so herself.
However, the other person with her had exposed her position.
Previously, they had witnessed these two acting almost in tandem.
One was a Mage, and the other a Warrior.
One handled ranged attacks while the other took care of melee.
Combined with their displayed strength, they formed a rather troublesome duo.
And he absolutely had to take out this troublesome pair.
Therefore, he couldn’t let two mere beasts halt his advance.
Sam’s unyielding actions made the atmosphere between the Orcs and the Giant Beasts increasingly tense.
Both sides were gearing up for battle.
Their confrontation was on the brink of breaking out.
“Axi, how’s it looking?”
Unable to see the situation outside, Airael couldn’t help but ask.
She was ready to unleash her skills.
With her magic stimulating the clash, an intense battle unfolded between the two Giant Beasts and the pursuing Orcs.
Axi, observing the developing situation, replied, “The Dragon Beast and the Giant Bear have halted their fight. They’re now joining forces to confront the Orcs, warning them to retreat.”
“And the Orcs’ response?”
Upon hearing this, Airael continued to inquire.
“It seems the Orcs have no intention of backing down. They’re closing in step by step on the two Giant Beasts and are already prepared for combat.”
Axi responded.
“What about the Dragon Beast and the Giant Bear?”
“They are also geared up for a fight.”
“Ah—!”
Airael exclaimed.
She realized that if the situation continued to develop as it was, it seemed she wouldn’t even need to use her magic to stir things up.
“Ailia, it appears that you won’t need to cast any spells this time,” Axi said to Airael, noticing the increasingly explosive atmosphere brimming with tension.
Though Airael knew this to be true, hearing Axi put it so bluntly left her feelings a bit complicated.
It made her feel a tad useless.
“Oh!”
Thus, feeling a bit down, Airael merely replied softly, choosing not to speak further.
Axi, not overly concerned by her mood, kept his focus fixed on the Giant Beasts and the Orcs.
Without Airael’s interference, he was able to concentrate even harder.
His eyes were glued to the Giant Beasts and Orcs, trying not to miss a single move.
Faced with the relentless advance of the Orcs, the two Giant Beasts showed no signs of retreat.
In response, Sam commanded the Orcs, “Kill them!”
Since they refused to step aside and became a detestable obstruction, they shouldn’t blame the Orcs for being less than courteous.
“Roar!”
The Orcs collectively let out a mighty roar, charging toward the two Giant Beasts, some wielding mace and axes leading the charge alongside Sam.
Sam wielded a gigantic mace, and despite his bulk compared to ordinary Orcs making him seem cumbersome, his speed in the charge was anything but slow.
The remaining Orcs who didn’t charge weren’t idle either.
They were the Orcs’ ranged unit—spear throwers.
They raised their heavy spears high, targeting the two Giant Beasts ahead.
“Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! …”
With the sounds of piercing air, the heavy spears were launched, speeding toward the Giant Bear and the Dragon Beast.
“Roar—!”
Facing the Orcs’ sudden assault, the Dragon Beast and Giant Bear both emitted furious roars.
They were absolutely livid this time.
These Orcs were simply too much!
In response to the spear attacks, the Giant Bear slammed its front paws into the ground.
A yellowish Magic Circle appeared beneath it, and a wall of earth rose before it, blocking all the incoming spears.
The Dragon Beast, meanwhile, disregarded the flying spears and counter-charged toward the incoming Orcs.
While the heavy spears excelled in penetrating armor, they were utterly ineffective against the Dragon Beast’s thick layer of scales.
The spears clanged against the Dragon Beast, merely producing a series of delightful “clang clang clang” sounds before dropping harmlessly to the ground.
The failed attack from the spear throwers dimmed the Orcs’ morale, but it didn’t affect Sam at all.
Sam charged forward with unwavering momentum toward the counter-attacking Dragon Beast.
Axi shook his head inwardly upon witnessing this scene.
Though the Dragon Beast and the Giant Bear were powerful, they weren’t exactly a unified force; they had merely formed a temporary defense alliance to withstand the Orcs’ assault.
As such, there was no coordination between them at all.
Just like the current situation.
The Giant Bear was being overwhelmed by the Orcs’ heavy spears, while the Dragon Beast recklessly rushed in, relying on its “armor” without any concern.
While their fearless spirit in the face of a strong enemy was commendable, charging in now was akin to walking into a death trap.
There was only one of you, and your ally was suppressed behind, unable to provide any effective support!
Next, the enemy would swarm you, and among them were foes that posed threats not weaker than you.
Thus, with allies fighting separately, it was as good as having no alliance; the only beneficiaries would be their enemies, making it easier for them to take them down.
Axi was watching this unfold, anxious in his heart.
If the two Giant Beasts fell without a fight, then his and Airael’s plans to profit from them would be dashed!
