Chapter 25: Axi’s Spectacular Performance
“Humans are lying in wait for us!”
The remaining Orcs immediately grew anxious, scanning their surroundings for any trace of the enemy.
Yet, no signs of humans were in sight at all.
Then they turned to their Riding Wolves, hoping these beasts might pick up on something.
The Riding Wolves responded with innocent eyes, having noticed nothing amiss.
This was a human settlement, filled with the lingering scents of human life.
The scents were so overwhelming that the Orcs’ keen noses were momentarily dulled.
If it weren’t for this, unless those humans had some way to mask their presence, they surely wouldn’t slip past their sensitive noses.
Fear arises from the unknown.
Without knowing where the enemy was hiding or how many were lying in wait, the already badly battered Orcs began to panic.
Including those who hadn’t gathered here, they had already lost half their comrades.
Especially after that powerful Magic Attack just now, which cost them ten of their buddies.
Now, they were left with just over a dozen, which meant: if any lurking Mage hit them with two or three more surprise attacks, their entire squad would be annihilated!
It was a simple calculation.
Even the dimmest Orc could figure that out.
With this in mind, the surviving Orc captain shouted, “Don’t huddle together! Spread out! Don’t give the Human Mage another chance to attack us!”
Out of fear, the Orcs instinctively wanted to gather together for warmth.
But the captain’s words halted their instinctive clustering.
However, they didn’t dare to stray too far from each other either, instead just standing in place and observing.
Even those who had gathered had dispersed actively.
They all wanted to avoid being taken down by mysterious magic.
Listening to the Orc captain, Airael couldn’t help but internally scoff: Sorry, I’m not some Human Mage; I’m an Elf Mage!
After her little rant, Airael turned to Axi.
At this moment, Axi was already poised for action, his eyes locked onto his designated target.
He was fine-tuning his body, adjusting his breathing and muscles for optimal performance.
This would allow him to unleash tremendous power right from the start, leaving the Orcs no time to react and swiftly eliminate them.
Seeing this, Airael decided not to continue launching Magic Attacks against the Orcs.
She wanted to see Axi’s performance.
It didn’t take long for Axi to achieve a near-perfect state.
In the next instant, he shot forward.
Like an arrow released from a bow, he dashed toward the closest Orc.
So fast!
Watching Axi move, nearly leaving behind only afterimages, Airael couldn’t help but gasp in awe.
The commotion from Axi’s charge caught the Orcs’ attention, but he was just too quick.
Before the designated target even realized what was happening, Axi had already claimed his life.
Axi’s sharp sword easily sliced through the Orc’s throat.
Without missing a beat, Axi charged toward the second target.
At this point, the second target was still dazed.
Although he sensed something was off, he couldn’t comprehend what was happening.
And just like the first Orc, he fell victim to Axi.
After dispatching two Orcs, Axi showed no sign of slowing down, diving toward the third Orc.
It was only when the third Orc met his end that the remaining Orcs finally realized they were under attack from the waiting human!
In the blink of an eye, three more of their comrades lay fallen.
Though the Orcs reacted, Axi’s rapid strikes continued unabated.
He aimed to finish this battle in one smooth sweep.
Before the Orcs could mount any effective defense, Axi zipped over to the fourth Orc.
This Orc could only widen his pupils in shock before he was no more.
Another comrade fell, and it struck deep into the hearts of the remaining Orcs that they had been so easily dispatched after recognizing their foe.
So strong!
This was an opponent they could barely handle.
Not to mention, they were still keeping such a loose formation, it was like they were presenting their necks gleaming clean for the slaughter.
But they didn’t dare to cluster together.
Once they gathered, they would undoubtedly face another round of that devastating magic attack.
That would be no different from signing their own death warrants.
In such a situation, they were even more hesitant to muster up the courage to retaliate against Axi.
Axi’s show of power deeply shook them.
In a moment, the Orcs found themselves at a loss for what to do.
They could only watch, wide-eyed, as Axi zipped between them, claiming life after life of their comrades.
Amidst the killing, Axi felt exhilarated.
In the recent fight against the Orcs, he had suffered quite a setback being surrounded.
Now, it was time for these Orcs to witness his true strength!
“Retreat!”
After losing several more comrades, the Orc captain finally devised a strategy.
If they couldn’t win, then the only option was to run.
Better to keep the green mountains than to worry about firewood.
Moreover, he had to report this news about such a terrifying foe hunting them down.
In this war, just like humans would be cautious about their Orcs heading south,
The Orcs would be wary of the human warriors coming to challenge them.
The overwhelming power demonstrated by this human warrior was certainly deserving of their utmost respect.
The surviving Orcs hurriedly mounted their equally frightened Riding Wolves and took off in a flash.
The spoils they had gathered were naturally left behind.
At a time like this, escaping their lives was a win; they had no time to worry about such trivial possessions.
Though Axi tried his best to pursue, the Orcs were hell-bent on fleeing, and with his strength already depleted, he couldn’t catch all of them, letting three Orcs escape.
Among them was that cunning Orc captain.
After chasing a distance from the village entrance, Axi stopped, gazing regretfully at the three fleeing Orcs.
This performance had a great start, but no perfect ending.
All he could say was that this Orc captain was no fool.
From Axi’s perspective, the captain should have been so intimidated that his brain short-circuited, leaving him unable to react at all, and even if he could respond, he would have a hard time making the right call in such a short time.
