Chapter 87: Internal and External Turmoil of the Human Race
Just as he was about to seek out Victor, Victor had already received news of his return and came before him.
“Grandpa Suratu! You’re back!”
Upon seeing Suratu, Victor excitedly called out as he approached.
“Your Highness!”
Suratu’s mood was quite heavy.
Victor’s excitement dampened as he feigned ignorance and asked, “Grandpa Suratu, why do you look so unhappy? Has something bad happened?”
Realizing something was off, Suratu composed himself and asked, “Your Highness, I wonder how His Majesty is doing health-wise?”
Victor’s expression turned somber, “Father’s health has been poor, and he needs to focus on resting these days. Now, he has entrusted all matters to me. If you have anything to discuss, Grandpa Suratu, feel free to come to me.”
“Since that’s the case, I happen to have some matters to discuss with Your Highness.”
“Grandpa Suratu, please follow me.”
With that, Victor turned and led the way for Suratu.
Suratu followed closely behind him.
The two of them walked down Alexander’s flagship and took a boat to Victor’s own ship.
In Victor’s room.
After dismissing the attendants, Suratu looked at Victor and asked, “Your Highness, has His Majesty already…”
Halfway through his sentence, he found it impossible to finish the thought.
He had a deep affection for Alexander.
Since he had no sons of his own, he essentially treated Alexander and his fellow students as his children. Although Alexander hadn’t studied magic under him, there was no doubt he was his most outstanding student.
“Grandpa Suratu, my father has indeed passed away, and it’s been several days now.”
Victor replied heavily.
In these days, he had completely lost his father’s protection.
He felt lost but also knew he had to shoulder the burdens ahead.
Upon hearing this heart-wrenching news, Suratu was stunned for a moment, his eyes brimming with tears as he looked at Victor.
Victor also felt a wave of sadness wash over him.
It was only after his father’s death that he realized how precious his father truly was.
Though his bond with Alexander wasn’t very deep, Alexander had always been his father, and they shared a blood connection.
After a long silence, Suratu wiped away the tears at the corner of his eyes and continued, “Your Highness, how is the situation with the army?”
“The situation with the army is quite grim. Even before we confirmed the news of my father’s passing, many legion commanders already had their own ideas. If we publicize my father’s death, things will likely get even worse.”
Just as he was emerging from his sorrow, Suratu’s mood turned heavy like Victor’s.
However, there was also a sense of relief in his heart.
Fortunately, he had obtained the peace agreement from the Elven Race. Although it didn’t immediately result in the Humans marrying the Elven Queen, he hadn’t really hoped for that.
The key thing lay in future generations.
Victor, seeing that Suratu had gone quiet, couldn’t help but cry out, “Grandpa Suratu, what should I do next? I’m truly lost and have no idea what to do.”
With both internal and external turmoil, what worried Victor the most was the internal strife.
If those legion commanders didn’t have their own ideas, even if his father Alexander had died, no matter how those races flailed about, they wouldn’t be a match for the Humans.
But the crux was that those legion commanders wouldn’t simply disregard their ambitions.
All humans have their own ambitions and desires, and he clearly couldn’t suppress their ambitions and desires as his father had done.
At that moment, Victor wished more than anything that Alexander was still alive.
If he were still alive, those people wouldn’t dare to entertain any ideas.
Seeing Victor like this, Suratu couldn’t help but feel very sad.
Though Victor’s abilities were a bit weaker than Alexander’s, he was still a capable young man.
It was just that the territory Alexander had built was far too vast, and he hadn’t adequately solidified it, making it impossible for Victor to handle it all now.
In such times, all Suratu could do was offer some comforting words: “Your Highness, you must believe in your ability. You are the child of the Human Emperor Alexander; his blood flows in you, and whatever he could achieve, you surely can too.”
Encouraged by Suratu, Victor’s mood brightened a bit.
Slowly regaining his composure, he wiped his tears and asked Suratu, “By the way, Grandpa Suratu, how is the situation with the Elven Race?”
“The Elven Race has agreed to our demands, but… they have a few additional requests.”
Suratu paused for a moment as he spoke about the latter part.
Victor looked at Suratu with a questioning gaze.
Suratu could only relay the Elves’ requests back to Victor.
Upon hearing this, Victor was utterly stunned.
Three hundred years is quite a long time for the Human Race; even at a slow pace, that’s several generations and at a brisk pace, it could be over a dozen generations.
“Your Highness, this is the best outcome we could hope for at this juncture,” Suratu sighed.
Victor nodded, indicating that he understood.
“Also, please let those Treemen go as soon as possible. We need to return, and Alexander should return to his homeland as well!”
“Understood!”
Suratu and Victor’s expressions once again turned to sorrow.
Not long after, as the Human Expeditionary Force returned, the news of Emperor Alexander’s death couldn’t be hidden any longer and spread throughout the world.
The death of Alexander caused the previously stabilized continent to become shrouded in uncertainty once again.
Not only were there issues within the Human Race, but even those races that had been previously eliminated sought to gain a piece of the pie and reap some benefits.
However, even though Alexander was dead, the strength of the Human Race hadn’t diminished significantly.
Thus, whether they would succeed or not remained an unknown.
Elven Royal City.
Upon hearing this news, Airael displayed a wry smile.
She knew things wouldn’t be so simple.
That old fox was surely plotting something.
It turned out that the Human Emperor Alexander was nearing death.
Unfortunately, they had already agreed to the Humans’ demands. If they were to abruptly break off the engagement, it would put the Elves at a disadvantage. Everything would have to wait for three hundred years!
With the world situation in such chaos, who knows if the Humans would be able to maintain their current dominant position three hundred years from now.
If that were the case, she would have her opportunity.
At that time, she wouldn’t have to acknowledge those Human heroes; the weakened Human Race would be completely helpless against her and the Elven Race.
And for these three hundred years, her task would be to diligently train, strengthen herself, and go through the trials set by Linis, then take the lead and make the Elven Race powerful.
Regardless of anything, becoming strong in oneself is the ultimate truth!
